In a previous blog post we answered a common question we get asked at red Blue Heating and Refrigeration, what are ground source heat pumps? Today we are going to shift our focus a bit to ductless mini-splits.
The picture above is of a ductless mini split heat pump. It is exactly what they sound like, a heat pump without using ducts to transfer and extract heat from your home. Instead of going into full detail about how a ductless mini-split works, you can watch this great video below.
How They Work
To sum it up, a ductless mini-split system has a condensing unit or heat pump on the outside of a home or building that is connected by a line duct to an air handler on the inside. The conduit which links the outdoor and indoor units houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing and a condensate drain.
Who They Are For
If you are looking for a cost effective method of controlling the temperature in your home, they are a great choice. Ductless mini-splits are quiet when in operation so if you prefer no noise, you'll love them. They are also very sleek and if you think heat pumps are too big and bulky and don't want to go through the trouble of hiding them, a ductless mini-split is a great option. They are also a great choice if your are doing a renovation to your home as little setup work is required. Also on the renovation front, they are great for room additions or suites. Lastly, they are a great choice if your home has no duct work whatsoever.
