    Troubleshooting HVAC Systems

RedBlue is happy to be available for emergency service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Before you call us to come to the rescue, have a look at some of the most frequent problems that come up, with heating and cooling systems and some solutions you can try to troubleshoot HVAC systems at home!

Ensure Your Thermostat is Set Correctly

You would be surprised how many service calls end up being a simple thermostat error! So, before calling for our crew to come and check for you, make sure that your settings are what they are supposed to be!

    Check Your Thermostat Batteries

Many of today’s thermostats are digital, and require batteries. If your screen is blank, try popping off the cover and changing the batteries! You should only have to do this twice a year at the most, so check it when you check your smoke detector batteries.

    Change or Clean Your Filter

A dirty filter is one of the most common causes of heating and cooling problems! If your filter is clogged and covered in dirt, the airflow through your system will be restricted, and you won’t get the results that you want. Changing your filter is easy, and should be done twice a year in most cases. RedBlue recommends having our crew come once a year for maintenance, and we will change your filter and teach you how to do it yourself once more that year!

    Check Your Electrical Panel

If your furnace doesn’t seem to be turning on at all, you may have a power source issue. Check your electrical panel for a breaker switch labelled for the furnace and/or heat pump. If you find it tripped, try resetting it. Give your system a few minutes to get going again, most have automatic delays built in.

When you have tried these steps and are still stumped, give us a call 250-590-2080, or drop us a line and we will be happy to help!
